La La Land Review

There has been so much hype surrounding La La Land.  I’m not a huge musical fan, so I was not that eager to see it.  Though, I am a huge fan of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.  So I finally got to see it.  Is it THAT good?  Did it live up to all of the hype? Does it truly deserve to be nominated for 14 oscars?? You bet your ass it did, and then some.

La la Land is not only one of the best films of the past year, it is one of the best films ever made.  It is so well made.  Typically, in musicals, they have harsh intros into their musical numbers.  They bleed so well together in La La Land.  A film hasn’t had this much of an impact on me since The first time I watched Interstellar.  After watching it, I had to 1, immediately listen to the soundtrack and 2, look up every detail of the craftsmanship that went into this masterpiece.

Emma Stone is at her best here.  Her performance was both fun and heart wrenching.  Ryan Gosling, in no surprise, was outstanding also.  Their chemistry is what sales La La Land.  There’s something else though that is practically a character in its own right.  The soundtrack is the heart and spirit of this film.  Justin Hurwitz, you sir are an amazing composer.  Every single song in this movie is so well done and fits perfectly.

Some say it’s a love letter to Los Angeles.  Some say it’s a love letter to old school musicals in early Hollywood.  I would say it’s more than all of those things.  It is a piece of art that is intended to inspire everyone to get out there and achieve their dreams, no matter the cost.  La La Land is more than a good movie.  It deserves every win it’s about to grab at the academy awards and most certainly landed a spot in my top 5 films ever.  That being said, La La Land absolutely deserves 10 chickens on a stick, out of 10.

Guys, I highly recommend that you go see this movie and I hope that you love it just as much as I do.
